Professor Charles Fleischmann- Ako Aotearoa Teaching Excellence Award Winner 2014

Professor Charles Fleischmann, a University of Canterbury fire engineer has been recognised as one of New Zealand’s top tertiary teachers.
Professor Fleischmann has received one of 11 Ako Aotearoa national tertiary teaching excellence awards.
Charles is the undergraduate coordinator in Civil and Natural Resources Engineering. He has a passion for teaching and has demonstrated particular success in teaching large first year classes and bringing in new technology into his teaching. His research focuses on compartment fire modelling, computer modelling, backdraft and flashover. He is a member of the editorial board of a number of fire related publications.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) Dr Hamish Cochrane said” “Professor Fleischmann is well-known at UC for his enthusiasm for teaching, his outstanding teaching skills and commitment to engaging with his students.”
The award includes $20,000 in prize money to be used for career development and to promote best practice in teaching.
